Case Histories
Dr Gupta has earned repute for taking on ‘difficult’ cases successfully, and he routinely gets referred patients who have been turned down for treatment elsewhere.
These are brief descriptions of some of such cases, with links to their procedural images/ videos and in some cases to patient accounts.
•51 year old man with a prosthetic mitral valve and prosthetic aortic valve replacement surgery 10 years back. He has a 5 year history of paroxysmal AF. This progressed to persistent AF 2 years back that was resistant to drug therapy with Amiodarone. Dr Gupta performed successful AF ablation and IMAGES can be seen HERE.
•68 year old lady with a prosthetic mitral valve replacement surgery 23 years back. She has a long 10-year history of paroxysmal AF. This progressed to persistent AF 3 months back with decompensation into heart failure. Dr Gupta performed successful AF ablation and IMAGES can be seen HERE.
•70 year old lady with persistent AF, tachy-cardiomyopathy, and heart failure. left ventricular ejection fraction only 20%. Was turned down for AF ablation in Ireland as perceived to be high risk. She flew over from Dublin to Liverpool, where Dr Gupta performed ablation successfully. Her LV function is now back to normal at 50%. See IMAGES here and read PATIENT ACCOUNT here (Maureen Clarke).
•69 year old lady with a device septal occluder in situ for Atrial Septal Defect since 2001. Had troublesome AF in spite of drug treatment, and was referred to Dr Gupta. Dr Gupta successfully crossed the atrial septum using guidance of transesophageal echo, and successfully abated the AF. See IMAGES here
•A 75 year old lady with long and complex history. Had open heart surgery for mitral stenosis 40 years ago. Became symptomatic with persistent atypical left atrial flutter 2 years back and went on to have AV node ablation and Biventricular pacemaker insertion. Continued to be symptomatic with the left atrial flutter and was referred to Dr Gupta who took her on for curative ablation successfully. See IMAGES here.
•68 year old lady with prosthetic aortic valve in situ. Also has CREST syndrome and advanced lung disease with FEV1 of only 1 litre. Had highly symptomatic AF with decompensation to heart failure with each episode. Dr Gupta successfully ablated her AF. See IMAGES here.
•64 year old lady who had open heart surgery for closure of a large atrial septal defect 30 years ago. Developed troublesome atrial fibrillation 10 years ago that did not respond to drugs and insertion of a pacemaker. Finally referred to Dr Gupta who successfully crossed the surgical patch and ablated her AF. She has not had a single episode of AF since as confirmed on interrogation of the pacemaker. Read PATIENT ACCOUNT here (Barbara Jones).
•43 year old man with Old Myocardial Infarction, severe left ventricular dysfunction and heart failure. Has Biventricular pacemaker in situ. Very symptomatic AF with decompensation of heart failure. AF successfully ablated. See IMAGES here, and read patient account page (Thomas Atherton).
•15 year old boy with persistent AF, tachycardia-myopathy, and heart failure. Treated successfully with AF ablation with improvement in LV function. See IMAGES here
•40 year old man with Dilated Cardiomyopathy, frequent ICD shocks and persistent AF: cured with AF ablation with improvement in LV function. See IMAGES here
•72 year old man with persistent AF: successfully ablated to sinus rhythm. See IMAGES here
•38 yr old man with Porphyria and Persistent AF: unable to take any medications. Catheter ablation restored normal rhythm. See IMAGES here
•64 year old man presented with intractable VT- treated with Epicardial VT ablation. See IMAGES here.
